The III Eurasia International Film Festival was held in Almaty in 2006. This year the festival was accredited by the International Federation of Producers' Associations (FIAPF). At the same time, along with the main competition, the film festival began to hold a Central Asian competition, the jury of which was headed by Turkmen director Khodzhakuli Narliev.
Retrospectives of films by Volker Schlendorf (Germany) and the famous Iranian Makhmalbaf family: Mohsen, Samira, Khana and Marzia Meshkini were held. In honor of the 90th anniversary of the birth of Kazakh cinema director Abdulla Karsakbayev, a retrospective of his films was also held.
Winners of the main (international) competition:
Grand Prix for the best film – « Eden » (Germany – Switzerland), dir. Michael Hoffman.
Prize for the best director’s work – Jean Yuan («Small red flowers», China).
Special Jury Prize – «Kek» (Kazakhstan), dir. Damir Manabai.
Prize for the best female role – Ladan Mo («Goodbye life», Iran).
Prize for the best male role – Masato Ibu («Rocking», Japan).
Winners of the Central Asian Competition:
Grand Prix for the best film – “Notes of a wayfarer” (Kazakhstan), dir. Zhanabek Zhetiruov.
Prize for the best director's work – Kamara Kamalova (“The Road under Heaven”, Uzbekistan).
Prize for the best female role – Fatima Gulyamova (Ovora, Tajikistan).
Prize for the best male role – Tulegen Kuanyshev (“Steppe Express”, Kazakhstan).
