The IV Eurasia International Film Festival, held in Almaty in 2007, showed that the festival is gaining momentum. Along with the international jury headed by the Argentine director Ariel Rotter, this year the jury of film critics of NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema), a world organization that is a leading authority in the space of Asian cinema, began its work. In addition to the international competition, there was also a competition of Central Asian and Turkic-speaking countries. The program “Cinema Bridge: East – West” included a retrospective of films by the world cinema classics from Greece Theo Angelopoulos and the famous Taiwanese director Tsai Min Liang. The 85th anniversary of the birth of the Kazakh director Mazhit Begalin dedicated to the screening of his films.
Winners of the international competition:
Grand Prix for the best film – “Crescent Moon” (Iran – France – Austria – Iraq), dir. Bahman Gobadi.
Prize for the best director's work – Alexey Popogrebsky (“Simple Things”, Russia).
Special Jury Prize – “The Pupil” (Philippines), dir. Brilliante Mendoza.
Special Jury Prize – “Shuga” (Kazakhstan – France), dir. Darezhan Omirbayev.
Prize for the best female role – Bingbing Fan (“Lost in Beijing”, China).
Prize for the best male role – Leonid Bronevoy (“Simple Things”, Russia).
Competition of Central Asian and Turkic-speaking countries:
Two films received the Grand Prix for the best film: “Strizh” (Kazakhstan), dir. Abai Kulbai and “Bos Salkyn” (Kyrgyzstan), dir. Ernest Abdyzhaparov.
Prize for the best director's work – Fatih Hatsiosmanoglu (“Stone Pillow”, Turkey).
Diploma for the best female role – Dinara Kashaganova (“Blame”, Kazakhstan).
The NETPAC Jury Prize was awarded to the film “Strizh” (Kazakhstan), dir. Abai Kulbai.
