THE CHRONICLE OF “EURASIA”. 2014: UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CENTENARY OF THE LEGEND OF KAZAKH CINEMA


The X Eurasia International Film Festival was held in 2014 in Almaty. This year marked the anniversary of not only the festival itself, but also the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding figure of Kazakh cinema, film director and actor Shaken Aimanov. Therefore, of course, solemn events dedicated to the master's work took place during the festival: a retrospective display of his works, the presentation of a book album, the premiere of the documentary “Shaken Aimanov: a man and a legend”.

Over 180 applications from all over the world were sent to participate in the film forum. The competition program of the festival included 12 films. The jury was headed by Chinese screenwriter and director Jia Zhangke, winner of the Golden Lion of the Venice Film Festival for the film “Still Life” and winner of the Cannes Film Festival.

Winners:

Ÿ Grand Prix for the best film – “Next to Her” (Israel), dir. Assaf Korman.

Ÿ Best Director Award – Benedikt Erlingsson (“About horses and people”, Iceland).

Ÿ Special Jury Prize – “Voice of the Steppe” (Kazakhstan), dir. Ermek Shinarbayev.

Ÿ Prize for the best female role is Tinatin Dalakishvili (“Zvezda”, Russia). П

Ÿ Prize for the best male role went to an entire ensemble of four actors who shone in the Georgian – Estonian film “Tangerines”.

Ÿ Two other juries – FIPRESCI and NETPAC – were united in their choice and awarded prizes to the Kazakh film “Adventure” by Nariman Turebayev.

Ÿ The Audience Award was awarded to the film “Business Trip Home” by Rashid Suleimenov (Kazakhstan), which was shown in the program “Dynamic Kazakh Cinema”.

Ÿ Prize for contribution to the development of world cinema was awarded to the popular Greek-French director, two-time Oscar winner Costa-Gavras.
