A World Cinema Legend: Palme d'Or Winner Nuri Bilge Ceylan to Chair the Jury of the Eurasia International Film Festival

The 17th Eurasia International Film Festival is set to welcome an iconic figure of world cinema, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, as announced during a press conference today in Almaty.

Renowned Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan is celebrated for his exceptional contributions to cinema, earning numerous accolades at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2014, his masterpiece “Winter Sleep” received the Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest honor. He has also been awarded the Grand Prix for “Distant” and “Once Upon a Time in Anatolia” and was named Best Director in 2008 for “Three Monkeys”. With an impressive seven Cannes awards to his name, Ceylan’s work continues to inspire and resonate globally.

“A visionary filmmaker and one of Turkey’s most influential directors, Nuri Bilge Ceylan has captivated audiences at the world’s leading film festivals. In 2024, he will serve as the Chair of the Jury for the Eurasia International Film Festival's International Competition,” noted Diana Ashimova.

Beyond Cannes, Ceylan’s films have been celebrated at prestigious film events worldwide. His 2000 film “Clouds of May” received the FIPRESCI Prize from the European Film Academy. Over the course of his career, he has collected more than 97 awards from international festivals.

Born on January 26, 1959, in Istanbul, Ceylan is synonymous with profound, poetic, and deeply intellectual cinema. Known for his distinctive auteur style, his films masterfully combine striking visual storytelling with philosophical explorations of human nature, memory, solitude, and the passage of time.

As Chair of the Jury for the Eurasia International Film Festival's International Competition, Nuri Bilge Ceylan will bring his unique artistic vision and a rich understanding of the cultural interplay between East and West.

The festival is founded and traditionally organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the Kazakhfilm Studio named after Shaken Aimanov entrusted with the direct organization of the event.
