Over the years, 109 films from 43 countries have won the main (international) competition program of the Eurasia Film Festival. During its long history, the festival has held the Central Asian competition twice and the national competition once. However, we decided not to consider the results of these purely regional competitions, ensuring that all countries of the Eurasian continent remain on equal footing.
Kazakhstan confidently comes forth as the clear leader, with 29 laureate films bringing home 32 prizes. Russia secured second place with 20 films and 25 prizes. France and Kyrgyzstan competed for third place, each with 13 prizes, but France secured the bronze by having more prize-winning films: 12 compared to Kyrgyzstan’s 11. Georgia rounds out the top five with 7 films and 8 prizes.
The Top 10 also includes Germany (6/7), Azerbaijan (4/6), and both China and Uzbekistan (4/4 each).
There was a fierce competition for the last spot in the top ten, with six countries – Iran, Turkey, Philippines, Japan, Poland, and Croatia – each with three prizes, all compiting for a place in the “Premier League”.
At the bottom of the list, it’s notable that two laureate countries, the USA and Australia, have no direct ties to Europe or Asia. However, this situation arose from their participation in co-productions with European countries. Co-production allowed tiny Monaco to make its mark at the Eurasia Festival and even win one of the prizes.
