Over 15 Countries to Participate in the 17th Eurasia International Film Festival

From November 24 to 30, 2024, Almaty will once again become a vibrant meeting point of cultures, traditions, and innovative ideas.

The 17th Eurasia International Film Festival, the largest of its kind in Central Asia, will gather directors, actors, screenwriters, and cinema enthusiasts from around the globe. This is more than just a festival – it’s a world of stories, emotions, and perspectives on contemporary life.

Since its founding, Eurasia has evolved beyond the confines of a traditional film festival, becoming a bridge between East and West where rich cultural heritage meets modern trends. The festival is not merely a competition; it is a platform for dialogue, inspiration, and the discovery of new talents in the world of cinema.

 

This year’s festival promises to be more ambitious than ever:

- Participation from over 15 countries;

- Films spanning 3 continents;

- Two competitive sections showcasing 22 extraordinary films.

 

The 2024 lineup features films from nations with rich and unique cinematic traditions. Participants include Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Iran, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Russia, and the with many films delving into themes of migration and identity. The Yakutian film industry, known for its striking originality, will also present its latest works.

This remarkable diversity offers audiences a kaleidoscope of cultural traditions and fresh storytelling styles. The international competition tackles pressing global issues such as environmental challenges, equality, and personal and societal crises.

Meanwhile, the Central Asia and Turkic World competition provides a rare glimpse into how regional filmmakers explore national identity and address contemporary challenges.

Beyond the competition, the festival’s program features films that rarely make it to mainstream cinemas but deserve a wider audience. Highlights include:

- “World Panorama” – an exclusive selection of standout films from leading festivals such as Cannes, Venice, and Berlin;

- “New Kazakh Cinema” – a showcase for emerging talent, offering fresh perspectives in Kazakhstan’s cinematic landscape;

- Retrospectives and Special Screenings – rare gems seldom seen on the big screen.

At the heart of the festival are personal encounters with filmmakers, actors, and producers, offering audiences and young filmmakers the chance to engage directly with industry experts, exchange ideas, and uncover the secrets of the craft.

The festival will also host masterclasses in producing, screenwriting, and cinematography, providing new insights into the art of cinema.

The 17th Eurasia International Film Festival is an event not to be missed. From November 24 to 30, Almaty will transform into the epicenter of cinema – a powerful art form that transcends borders and unites people worldwide.

The festival is established and organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The organization of the event is entrusted to the Kazakhfilm National Film Studio named after Shaken Aimanov.

It is worth noting that the festival’s sponsors include the international construction company Bazis-A, the mining company KAZ Minerals, Sarens Kazakhstan, Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), Salem Entertainment, the Kinopark Theatres cinema chain, and Astana Motors.
