From November 24 to 30, Almaty will host the highly anticipated 17th Eurasia International Film Festival, one of the year’s most prominent cultural events. The festival will begin with the premiere of "We Need a Doctor," a touching family film filled with sharp wit, heartfelt emotions, and thoughtful life reflections.
The story centers on Dr. Nikolai Anatolyevich Grachev as he celebrates his 70th birthday. His colleagues, patients, and hospital leadership come together to honor him with a warm and heartfelt celebration. Yet, beneath the surface of the festivities lies a poignant exploration of human relationships, moral dilemmas, and life’s profound lessons. The narrative unfolds with unexpected turns, drawing viewers into the world of a dedicated medical team and inviting them to share in their most genuine and challenging moments.
“We Need a Doctor” is more than a tale about a doctor – it’s a tribute to those who save lives every day, confront difficult choices, and remain steadfast in their values amidst a constantly shifting world. The film resonates deeply, offering glimpses of kindness, heartbreak, hope, and an enduring faith in the strength of the human spirit.
"A musical comedy inspired by the title of an old classic. It’s a Broadway-style musical, where the songs aren’t just performances – they drive the story forward. Each song carries meaning and pushes the narrative ahead. I’ve never seen a film like this in Kazakhstan," said the film’s director, Ravil Trumov.
The film is a piece born of collaboration among some of Kazakhstan's most accomplished filmmakers. The screenplay was penned by Askar Bisembin, Saken Toktagulov, Meirman Abdraimov, and Ravil Trumov. Directorial vision was shared by Ravil Trumov and Askar Bisembin, with stunning cinematography by Yevgeny Makhmetov and Kazbek Amerzhanov. Rustam Musayev provided the production design, Alexey Maklai composed the score, and Olzhas Tartaev produced the project, with Askar Bisembin serving as creative producer.
On screen, the film’s characters come alive through the artistry of a talented cast. Sharip Serik, Karina Kudekova, Karakat Bashanova, and other gifted actors deliver deeply authentic and multifaceted performances, breathing life and sincerity into their roles.
The festival is founded and traditionally organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the Kazakhfilm Studio named after Shaken Aimanov entrusted with the direct organization of the event.
