"We Will Provide an Honest Evaluation": Li Baohua on the High Expectations for Eurasia Film Festival Participants

A press conference featuring the jury for the Central Asia and Turkic World Competition of the 17th Eurasia International Film Festival was held in Almaty. The event brought together key figures from the global film industry, who discussed the festival’s unique program and shared their perspectives on the films they are set to evaluate.

Li Baohua, chairman of the jury for the Central Asia and Turkic World Competition, expressed his impressions and high expectations for the participants’ works.

"During the festival’s opening yesterday, we were shown excerpts from the competition films, and I found them all to be highly commendable. They left a strong impression on me. Over the coming days, my fellow jury members and I will carefully review each film and provide an honest evaluation," Li Baohua stated.

Russian director Alexey Telnov, while answering the audience’s questions, expressed hope for compelling entries that would surprise and inspire the jury.

"The festival's opening was remarkable, and everything has been well-organized. We look forward to and hope that the submitted films will impress us," he noted.

Moroccan director Abdelilah El Jaouhary emphasized the significance of the festival. "Visiting Kazakhstan has been a dream of mine. My knowledge of the country was previously limited to a few films, but today, I'm here with my colleagues to learn as much as possible about Kazakh and Central Asian cinema," he said.

Renowned Kazakh actress Zhanna Kuanysheva highlighted the festival's role in discovering new talent.

"We must share our films with the world and also stay attuned to what’s happening in global cinema. From this perspective, Eurasia is an outstanding event," she remarked.

The festival runs until November 30, offering audiences the chance to experience vivid stories and immerse themselves in the rich culture of Central Asia and the Turkic world.

The festival is founded and traditionally organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the Kazakhfilm Studio named after Shaken Aimanov entrusted with the direct organization of the event.
